Hugging in dreams   November 24th, 2009

embraceEvery Wednesday I get to dissect a sex or relationship dream for my friends at  Em and Lo: Sex, Love and Everything In Between  This week’s dream is from a gal who keeps dreaming of a steamy embrace…

This really isn’t a sex dream at all, but I have dreamt twice this week of hugging (very long embrace) a tall, gorgeous, shirtless man.  I cannot see his face & I believe it was a different man in each dream.  I vaguely remember talking to the men, but never leaving the embrace, just my head resting on a marvelous bare chest.

Lauri:  Ha!  Your dream reminds of one of my recent dreams where my husband, Joe Jonas and I all were engaged in a long and loving embrace! But enough about me.  To hug in a dream means you have embraced something new in waking life such as a new attitude, a new behavior, a new opinion, etc.  My bet is that you have embraced your “male” side.  Being assertive, bringing home the bacon, taking a no nonsense approach to life are all considered masculine or yang qualities.  Whereas, sensitivity, creativity and nurturing are considered feminine or yin qualities.

Naturally, your dreaming mind will present these qualities to you in the form of a man or woman in order to show you how well or how poorly you are utilizing your yin and your yang.  You have embraced yours and are apparently quite pleased with yourself in waking life since you were so attracted to him in the dream.  How have you asserted yourself lately?  Like his studly, shirtless torso, did you get something off your chest? Did you say it like it is and did that work out well for you?  All signs seem to point to YES! Keep it up sista!  Don’t let the fear of being called the B word hold you back.

Dreamer Response: Wow, this is great.  Thank you soo much for this. My guesses weren’t close:

  • 1st thought:  being the comittment-phobe that I am, I am not satisfied in my current relationship…something is lacking
  • 2nd: I am currently rereading Twilight series & I am dreaming of Edward. LOL

This probably has to do with the fact that I have been feeling like I have to take care of everything in my relationship.  I am like the man and the woman…I work full time, clean the house, take care of shopping & dinner, I am the one who remembers the directions, drives, decides on any plans.  Sooo, I finally told him that it has been 5 years and he needs to ’step it up’.  That I don’t always want to be ‘the one’ who handles Everything.  With every person, including Him asking when we are finally going to tie the knot…I have been a bit more critical of the relationship…silently.  I have no kids (we are 27 & WAY too close to 28) & I don’t want to be a parent to my man.  I did finally get that off my chest & I think I am happy that I did and know that time will tell if he is taking me seriously.

Restaurant settings in dreams   November 18th, 2009

Cafeteria_SignA lot of my dreams take place in restaurants or kitchens. Sure, some of these dreams are connected to the constant policing of my diet, but more often than not, the restaurant or cafeteria setting of a dream goes much deeper than concern over what you eat in waking life.

This morning I was a guest on KSTT in San Luis Obispo, CA with Bill and Amy and Bill shared his cafeteria dream with me and it revealed a lot about what he is going through right now…

As you can see, no matter how mundane or pointless you think your dream may be, there is always a message you need to know!

Don’t let your dreams frighten you!  Let them enlighten you!!  Grab yourself a copy of one of my books and you’ll easily understand your dreams every morning and get a HUGE edge in life.

“Your books have been a life saver for me!  Being able to understand my dreams has helped me to turn my marriage around because they were showing me what I have been doing to make our situation worse. Wow. It’s unbelievable how helpful my dreams have been to me.  I can not thank you enough.”   - Tammy, Flagstaff, AZ

I keep dreaming of a snake pit!   November 16th, 2009

snakepit-792614Cats, dogs and snakes are the three animals we dream about the most. Why cats, dogs and snakes? I’m sure the fact that these three are common pets plays into it, but even more is that these three creatures represent how we all tend to behave in our relationships… and what relationship doesn’t have its issues?

Case in point, Listen to the audio below and find out how this man’s recurring snake dreams are a brutally honest commentary on his relationship. This is from when I was a guest on WPXY in Rochester, NY with Spezanno and Sandy…

What about you? Have you had any notable snake dreams? Share them in the comments section.

Are you dreaming of fish, snakes, dogs, or other animals? Then you gotta grab yourself a copy of my book So, What Did You Dream Last Night? It’s ALL in there!  And it has pretty cool dream inspired illustrations too!!

Colored doors   November 13th, 2009

I get asked a lot if it’s true that we dream in black and white.  The answer is NO!  Not true at all.  That is a myth that was born in the 50s, the age of black and white television.  Before that, no one had ever claimed to dream in black and white.  If you see in color, you dream in color.  In fact, any color that seems to stand out to you in a dream is important and there for a reason.  Everything in your dream means something, even the colors.

Last week I was a guest on WUHU in Bowling Green, KY with Brooke Summers when a listener called in with a dream about colored doors.  What you don’t get to hear in the call, because it was edited out, was that she is currently trying to decide if she should keep looking for a man or just give up for a while…

What about you?  Have any colors been standing out to you in your dreams?

Reno911Every Wednesday I get to dissect a sex or relationship dream for my friends at  Em and Lo: Sex, Love and Everything In Between  This week’s dream is from a man whose wife keeps having sex dreams about a cop…

My wife and I were having a small rough patch months ago and she went out with some friends and met this guy, a cop.  He tried to pick her up at the bar but she turned him down, then she saw him again at our gym.  I was there with her and he wouldn’t approach her with me there and we ended up leaving.  Anyway, now she has recurring sex dreams about the policeman and she seems to be frustrated.  She is honest enough to tell me about them.  Mostly they involve some instance of danger and she goes to him for help and sex ensues.  She wants the dreams to stop and professes her love for me and that she has no interest in this man but can’t seem to figure out why she keeps dreaming about him.  Any insight?

Lauri: Wow.  The mere fact that she is honest about these dreams reflects her complete trust in you!  Let me assure you, so you can assure her, that just because you have a sex dream about someone doesn’t mean you desire them.  Two rules of thumb to keep in mind when trying to figure out your sex dreams:

1. Sex in dreams is rarely about a physical union you want but more about a psychological union you need or have recently made.

2. The lover in the dream rarely plays him or herself but rather represents a quality they possess OR sometimes a point in time that they mark.

Without being able to talk to your wife, I have a couple of ideas about what these dreams may really be about.  The fact that he hit on her is very significant.  Obviously she wasn’t attracted to him, but she probably DID appreciate the attention.  His hitting on her made her feel desirable… and there aint nuthin wrong with that!  Odds are, these dreams reflect NOT that she wants to unite his body into hers but that she wants to unite the feeling of being attractive into her psyche.  Sexy is an attitude, after all!

Another possible meaning may lie in the fact that he is a policeman.  So it may not be about the man himself that she wants but rather the ability to protect herself or police her behaviors.  The danger in the dream may not be connected to actual physical danger but something that is in danger… like her diet, for example.  That is something that would require her to police herself.  The fact that the dream does get to the point of intercourse is actually a good sign that the merger — whether it be feeling attractive or policing herself — is indeed taking place.

OJ took my baby!   November 6th, 2009

oj_simpsonCelebrities are usually fun to dream about.  It is most common to dream that you are friends with a certain celebrity.  I have frequent dreams of being BFFs with Madonna.

When a celebrity makes a cameo in your dreams, ask yourself what that particular celebrity is best known for.  Is it a song?  A movie role? A television show? Or a behavior?  Then, apply that to yourself.  Are you “performing” like this celebrity right now in your life?  Are you wanting recognition for this particular quality? You should be able to make the connection between the celebrity and your current situation or behavior.

Sometimes, certain celebrities can appear in our dreams and leave us feeling perplexed or frightened, rather than entertained.  The audio below is a perfect example.  Listen and find out why this woman dreamed OJ took her baby.  This is from when I was a guest the other day on WOGL in Philadelphis, PA with Ross Britain and The Breakfast Club…   ListenToAudio

What about you?  What celebrity stalks your dreams?

nude_manEvery Wednesday I get to dissect a sex or relationship dream for my friends at  Em and Lo: Sex, Love and Everything In Between  This week’s dream is from a woman whose very attracted to her co-worker…

For several years I have worked with someone whom I find to be very attractive. In the last year he has become a supervisor, and so while we see each other at work, we no longer spend very much time together talking as we used to and our relationship seems less close. In the last year I have had a few dreams about him. The most recent dream I had was quite strange. I dreamed that I went into the break room at work and he was sitting in an easy chair reading a newspaper. He lowered the paper and smiled at me and at that point I realized he was nude.  I was more concerned about where the chair came from than the fact that he had no clothes on.

Lauri: You don’t need me to tell you that you had this dream because you miss him. But the details of the dream are quite interesting… and quite telling of what has been going through your mind lately. The setting of your dream is the break room because that is the place where more intimate conversations often occur, since people are “off duty” while there, and it is also may be the only place you ever get to see him anymore. He is reading the newspaper because — when the two of you were together — you probably enjoyed “reading” his body language, his expressions, and perhaps even his innuendos, and you may have even wondered if he could read yours… all the “information” you give him without using the exact words.

His nudity is connected to the open honesty you wish you could have with him. You would probably love to be able to “bare” your soul to him and he to you. Now, don’t worry, your interest in the chair rather than in his naked bod doesn’t mean that it is likely less than impressive. The concern over the chair is actually connected to your waking life concern over “where he sits” in regards to you. What’s his position? What’s he thinking?

Your dream reflects a desire to “open up” to him and “inform” him of your feelings so you can be sure of “where he sits” in his feelings towards you. The not knowing, I’m sure, is killing you.

Dreamer’s response: Thanks for the dream analysis. I found it to be spot on in most respects. The only part that perhaps wasn’t involved the location of the break room.  Most of the conversations I have with this person occur in other parts of the building, not the break room.  We are rarely there together and when we are in the room at the same time we are usually with others.  A few  coworkers have even asked about the status of our friendship because in the past we talked a lot and now our conversations are much less frequent and shorter.  There is certainly a frustration within this relationship which you picked up on. Thanks again.  It’s time for bed.  I wonder what I will dream about tonight?

Lauri: The break room may not be where you and he had intimate conversations but rather it is a place where intimate conversations take place in general. People don’t just talk about work in there, they talk about their lives. Your inner mind wants some open honesty with him. It is up to you whether to pursue that or not. Good luck!
