I saw a crucified dog on the wall   October 30th, 2009

scared_womanEvery single night approximately 14 million Americans are jolted awake by a nightmare.  Nightmares are no fun but they happen to be the most important dreams of all!  Nightmares alert us to something that is wrong in our life, something that needs immediate attention.  The longer we ignore or mis-handle an issue, the more and more hostile our dreams become… until they reach nightmare status!

Yesterday I was guest on WOMX on the Scott and Erica Morning Show in Orlando FL to discuss nightmares for Halloween week.  The very first call got us started off just right with a really creepy nightmare about a crucified dog.  Listen to the audio below.  The real life story behind the nightmare is a perfect example of how a mis-handled issue will result in a nightmare…

What about you?  What is the creepiest nightmare you’ve had?

Don’t let your dreams frighten you!  Let them enlighten you!!  Grab yourself a copy of one of my books and you’ll easily understand your dreams every morning and get a HUGE edge in life.

“Your books have been a life saver for me!  Being able to understand my dreams has helped me to turn my marriage around because they were showing me what I have been doing to make our situation worse. Wow. It’s unbelievable how helpful my dreams have been to me.  I can not thank you enough.”   - Tammy, Flagstaff, AZ

lestat3Every Wednesday I get to dissect a sex or relationship dream for my friends at  Em and Lo: Sex, Love and Everything In Between  This week’s dream is from a woman whose boyfriend is doing strange things while he sleeps…

I am big into pain while having sex, and I am also into vampires. My fiance and I live together and he knows about the things I like. Well, one night while we were both sleeping he snuck up on me like vampire. Like he was lying next to me in bed and slowly creeped on top of me. He then pushed my shoulders down holding me tight and bit my neck. I liked every second of this because I LOVE being dominated and controlled in the bedroom. What I don’t get is why he did this while he was sleeping. After about 10 seconds, he let go, turned around and went back to sleep. He didn’t even remember doing it the next day! What does it mean? Am I just lucky or should I be worried?

Lauri: Aw, man. Too bad for you he didn’t continue!! While it is not unusual to talk in one’s sleep, it is more unusual to act out while asleep. So I have a few questions for you to pose to your boyfriend. Does he have a history of sleep walking? Sleep walkers in childhood often go through phases of it again as adults and it’s often triggered by stress. While he didn’t actually get up and walk, he did act out so if he did sleep walk as a child, keep an eye on him in case he actually makes it out of bed next time. Is he on any sleep aids such as Ambien? Ambien has been known to cause all kinds of parasomnias, which are abnormal and unnatural movements, behaviors, emotions and perceptions that occur while falling asleep, sleeping, between sleep stages, or arousal from sleep. One of the most reported parasomnias caused by Ambien is sleep sex!

If he answered no to all of the above, then keep yourself aware of his sleep behavior. If he acts out again, start keeping track. It could be the beginnings of REM Behavior Disorder where people act out their violent dreams. It mostly affects men and, of the men affected, most are middle aged. It can be treated with muscle relaxers should that wind up being the case. But odds are it is nothing to worry about and should give you a great role playing game idea for the bedroom… if you haven’t acted that out already.

Dreamer replies:  This does seem right. He said that he was caught sleep walking once as a child, but hasnt noticed or been told about it besides that.  We have had sex after “waking” up in the middle of the night, and he hasn’t ever remembered it the next day. I have told him about it, and he just is in amazment that it happened. He is not on any kind of sleeping medications.  He also grinds his teeth really bad while he sleeps. Is this a part of REM Behavioral Disorder? The thing with this boyfriend biting you thing is not a dream he actually did it out of no where.  Thank you for taking the time and answering my questions!! It eases my mind to know that he actions of him acting like a vampire on me aren’t anything to worry about!

graduateEvery Wednesday I get to dissect a sex or relationship dream for my friends at  Em and Lo: Sex, Love and Everything In Between  This week’s dream is from a woman who is having naughty dreams about her young co-worker…

I’m a 40-year-old woman who has become friends with a 20-year-old co-worker. He is like a younger cousin or family member to me, we get along great and have a lot in common. But lately I have started having dreams about him that have me kind of freaked out! We are usually out with a group of friends somewhere (a club, a restaurant) and having friendly discussions with everyone, when he will suddenly grab me and start kissing me!

Then things progress from there and we are in some kind of room having sex — and not just “regular” sex, either…wild and crazy sex. He’s also very commanding and decisive about what he wants to do, which isn’t anything like his real personality. I have been so embarrassed now whenever I see him as this is all I can think about! What is going on in my mind?

Lauri: Oh my…your inner cougar is surfacing! Or is it? Only you know for sure if you desire this young man. But I’ll go on the assumption that you do not since you were concerned enough about these dreams to write in to me. Experiencing a sex dream about someone you know can certainly be a head scratcher… and in some cases, a vomit inducer! But remember, sex dreams are rarely about a physical union you want but rather a psychological union you need.

You mentioned that you get along really well with him, so odds are you have in fact “come together” with him on some level. Interesting though that he is very commanding in the dream. Let’s delve into that! Is he in charge of some project at work? Has he taken control of any problem or issue and shown that he really knows what he is doing? Whatever the case, your dreams are very likely marking the consummation of your psychological union or perhaps a meeting of the minds at work, which is a good thing! So worry no more and keep these dreams as your happy little secret.

girl_fightDid you know the cheating dream is the most common dream we all get? I recently conducted a survey with over 5000 participants and the most commonly reported dream was the one where our mate is cheating in some form or fashion. These dreams are actually rarely connected to an actual affair that may be going on behind your back, rather they point to something that you feel has come between you and your mate.

Listen to the audio below and find out what has come between this caller and her boyfriend… it is nothing you would expect! This audio is from when I was a guest on WUHU in Bowling Green, KY with Brooke Summers…

Have you had the cheating dream? If so, what is it that you think has become a third wheel in your relationship?

Dreams help us in every area of our lives, relationships, career, overcoming the past… you name it!  When you can understand your dreams, your life gets better because decisions are easier, tough situations are clearer and you’re just plain smarter when you dream! My book Cracking The Dream Code will help you learn your own dream language so you can get an edge in life.

Enchanting spiders   October 17th, 2009

Do bugs ever creep and crawl into your dreams?  What about spiders?  Spiders seem to be the most commonly reported bug that infests our collective dreamscape.  The only spiders I have ever dreamt about were taratulas.  I used to have one as a pet.  His name was Meatloaf!  I miss Meatloaf.  sigh.

Anyhoo… for most people, when a spider comes in their dream it is a warning sign they are sending themselves.  Listen to the audio below to find out what that warning is.  This audio is from when I was a guest on The Coast Morning Show with Bill and Amy on KSTT in San Luis Obispo, CA.

My daughter’s tombstone   October 9th, 2009

There is no dream more disturbing than dreaming of your own child’s death.  The experience and the emotions are so real and it is such a relief to finally wake up… but then the horror sets in AGAIN as you wonder if your dream was showing you a glimpse of the future!

You’d be surprised how common this dream is.  Someone seems to call in with some version of this dream almost everytime I am on the air.  The other day I was on the air on Kat Country 103 in Modesto, CA with DJ Walker (as I am every Wednesday at 7am) when a woman called in with a seemingly innocuous dream about giant quarters that suddenly turned deadly…

As you can see, her dream was nothing to fear and was, in fact, showing her how important it is to make sure her daughter doesn’t feel left out as she adjusts to her new little sister and Mommy going back to work.

If you ever dream of the unthinkable happening to your child, fear not.  Simply ask yourself what changes is your child going through.  Have they reached a milestone?  How are they different now than they were a few weeks or even days ago.  Do this and you’ll find that, yeah, that younger child I used to know is no longer… but now I have a bigger smarter child on my hands!!

Any dream of death is merely a psychological means of bidding adieu to the old so that you can embrace the new.

Don’t let your dreams frighten you!  Let them enlighten you!!  Grab yourself a copy of one of my books and you’ll easily understand your dreams every morning and get a HUGE edge in life.

“I just wanted to say that the few dreams I have had that I have interpreted with your books have had substantial impact in my life.  I don’t know what I would do without them.”
