My mom walked in on me and L’il Wayne! March 30th, 2009
Monday’s are naughty dream day because that’s the day I get to analyze a sex dream on the
blog Em and Lo: Sex Love & Everything Inbetween This week’s dream feature’s rapper L’il Wayne…
I had this dream the other night where my mom and I were on vacation and the rapper I like, Lil Wayne, was staying at the same hotel. My mom and I got to meet him and later I went back to my room with Wayne. While we were having sex, my mom walked in on us. Weird dream!
Lauri: Yes, all dreams are weird… until you break them down and figure them out! Let’s do that to yours, shall we? The setting of your dream is a hotel, which means you are in a situation in your life that is temporary, because we only stay in hotels for a short period of time. What is happening with you that is passing or fleeting? If it’s not a situation, then it may be a passing state of mind.
Anyhoo, Lil Wayne makes an appearance in your dream, not only because you like him, but because your dreaming mind is using him to give you a message. Which one of his songs comes to mind when you think of him? Does the title speak to you and your current situation? What about the lyrics? There’s something about Lil Wayne that resonates with you and you are in the midst of bringing that into your life, into your behavior, into your personality — just as you were bringing him into your body in the dream.
But alas, Mom walks in! This is directly connected to a recent interruption in your waking life. Has your mom recently put a stop to something such as plans you had or a relationship you were in? Or maybe you’re a mom yourself, in which case she would be standing in for your own role as “Mom.” Has being a mother interfered with anything lately, kept you from reaching a personal goal or anything along those lines?
Whatever the case, again, the situation is temporary. Your dream placed you on vacation to remind you that nothing lasts forever, so be sure to enjoy the now.
Have celebrities been making appearances in your dreams? Want to know how to figure them out? My book So, What Did You Dream Last Night? has a whole chapter on celebrities in dreams! Plus, you’ll find out why nightmares are good for you, why houses in dreams are so important, everything you need to know about sex dreams and more!

How a dream about cannibalism gave us the sewing machine March 26th, 2009
Yesterday I was interviewed by a reporter from Investors Business Daily who was doing a story on Elias
Howe, inventor of the sewing machine. He was intrigued by the fact that Elias was able to perfect his sewing machine invention because of a dream!
Howe had been struggling to invent a machine that would sew with the same speed and efficiency as Hargreaves’ and Cartwright’s new machines would spin and weave, but with no success. As the tale goes, exhausted by frustration, Howe fell asleep at his workbench one night and had this dream:
He is in Africa, fleeing from cannibals through the jungle. Despite his frantic efforts to escape, the natives capture him, tie him up hand and foot, and carry him back to their village slung from a pole. There they dump him into a huge iron pot full of water. They light a fire under the pot and start to boil him alive.
As the water starts to bubble and boil around him, he discovers that the ropes have loosened enough for him to work his hands free. He tries repeatedly to take hold of the edge of the pot and haul himself out of the hot water, but every time he manages to heave himself up over the edge of the pot, the natives reach across over the flames and forcibly poke him back down into the pot again with their sharp spears.
When Howe awoke from this “nightmare,” much of his mind was absorbed with sorting through the emotions of the dream–but another part was able to note with objectivity, “That’s odd–those spears all have holes in the points….” As Howe came more fully awake, he thought, “Holes in the points… holes in the points! That’s it! That’s the answer!
As he awoke, Howe realized that the trick to making his sewing machine work was to move the thread transport hole up to point of the needle (as opposed to a handheld needle, where the hole is on the base). It then was a relatively simple matter to design a system of gears that would cause the needle to poke the thread down through the layers of cloth, wrap it around a second thread, and then pull it up again, all very neatly and efficiently. And with the invention of the sewing machine, the last bottleneck to the mechanical production of clothing was broken–this dream lead very directly to the realization of the industrial revolution!
Howe’s cannibal dream not only reflected that his invention was “eating away at him” and “consuming” his every thought, it also gave him the exact solution he needed.

My mom called me yesterday with a dream she had the night before. She was concerned because my husband was very angry at her in the dream. Little did she know that this dream was actually trying to help her sell her house! Read on to find out how…
My mother: In my dream Lauri, you had some sort of school project you were supposed to do but you asked me to do it for you. Well the time came when it was due but I had never really gotten around to it. You looked at what I had done through a microscope and saw that it was a comic strip instead of your project. Your husband became very angry with me for letting you down. I woke up so upset at myself!
Me: Allright Mother, as I’m sure you know, Mike is not really mad at you. Whenever someone is mad at you in a dream, it means you are actually mad at yourself in real life. What are you upset with yourself about? You had the dream last night so it’s about something from yesterday.
My mother: Well, we had someone who we thought was going to buy the house. He had come to look at it twice. But yesterday we found out he decided against it because he felt there was too much work to be done to it. I was mad at myself for not doing some of the things that need to be done.
Me: Ah! That’s what the project in your dream is… your house! Your dreaming mind is probably using me because – you know me – I’m always doing “shows,” radio and TV shows “displaying” myself and what I do. And in school I was always doing plays. I’m a big ham, I’m always on show! …just like your house is right now. And when people come to look at it, they are looking at it through a microscope, just like my project in the dream. People are looking at the closet space, the kitchen counters, everything!
My mother: That certainly makes sense. But why was your husband mad at me?
Me: You know how he is. He’s very nit-picky, everything has to be just so. He’s the part of you that ought to be nit-picky about how your house shows. This part of you is upset with yourself. And I think that is why, when you looked through the microscope, you saw a cartoon strip. You have to take this more seriously. It’s not a joke.
My mother: That’s true. This house has been on the market way too long. I need to get those things taken care of. Thank you honey.
Our dreams don’t allow us to be complacent. Just like my mom’s dream, they will let us know when we aren’t doing something right. They allow us to see our current situation from a different perspective, a perspective we aren’t seeing when awake. When we are able to see the full picture, we are then able to make better decisions. And better decisions mean a better life.
Got a tough decision to make right now? Let your dreams point the way! My Books will help you to not only understand your dreams, but also help you to see the advice, warnings and directions they offer you every single day!
How a girl-on-girl dream helped a straight relationship March 23rd, 2009
Every Monday I get to dissect a naughty dream for my friends at Em And Lo: Sex Love And Everything Inbetween In this week’s dream we get to find out how a little girl-on-girl action is actually helping this straight gal to improve her relationship with her boyfriend…
I had a dream a couple nights ago that is really making me feel awkward. I was in a high-rise office building in the kitchenette with a female friend of mine, who happens to be bisexual. We started making out, and then we proceeded to have sex. Just as I was having an amazing orgasm, my friend asks me what I am going to tell my boyfriend, and I tell her that he won’t mind.
The weird thing is, I am definitely straight. She is not even a friend that I spend a lot of time with. I am in a happy relationship. I do not understand where this is coming from. – Curious, But Not Bi-Curious
Lauri: Naughty dreams about people we’d never touch (in that way) with a ten-foot pole can certainly make us scratch our heads… and avoid eye contact with them the next day! But rest assured, this dream does not mean you need to start questioning your sexuality.
Let’s dissect this dream and see if we can’t make you feel a little less awkward. The high-rise office building symbolizes something in your life that you have “built,” something you have “worked” hard at, such as your relationship with your boyfriend.
Since you don’t see this friend that is in your dream that much, she is probably not playing herself. What three words first come to mind when you think of her personality. Got ‘em? Okay, now ask yourself which of those qualities you could really use in order to make your relationship with your boyfriend better. It probably has something to do with the way she communicates. I say this because that is what kissing in a dream usually means: communication. What does she communicate like? Could you take on her style as if it were your own?
You wind up having an amazing orgasm because your dreaming mind is telling you that communicating in the same way she does will bring you great satisfaction or allow you a much needed release! You also wonder to yourself — in the voice of this friend — if this way of communicating will be a problem with your boyfriend. You then tell yourself, in your own voice, that he won’t mind. That’s the point at which the dream ends, which means that is the point you need to take with you. Whatever it is you need to say… go for it because there is great satisfaction to be had, sister!
Curious But Not Bi-Curious: Wow, That really fits what’s going on in my life. My boyfriend of three years and I have been having some problems with how much time we spend alone. I have been avoiding talking to him about it because I am not sure I am being reasonable. My friend is very direct in the way that she communicates, but is also very calm and definitely a one-on-one kind of person. I think I’ll talk with him tonight. Thank you!
Want to be able to understand those dirty little dreams that make you feel awkward… or even excited? I have a whole chapter in my book So, What Did You Dream Last Night? that will teach you everything you need to know about sex dreams. From the disturbing to the downright spicy… it’s all in there!
Dude, where’s my car? March 19th, 2009
Our cars are a popular and powerful dream symbol and often reflect how our current journey down the road of life is going. But what does it mean if we dream our car is stole? Jesse, a 35 year old gal from Salt Lake City has been plagued with dreams that her car is stolen and is pretty darn tired of it! Read on to find out the extremely important message this dream is giving her…
I constantly dream of the same thing and it can last all night. I am usually at a new place, apartment when my car is stolen. It is always my Dodge Durango that is stolen by someone and I try all night long to get it back. Sometimes I know the person that took it and I go get it back and then I wake up in the morning and it is gone again. I can never keep it in my possession. The impact of the car being gone is that I will try to steal other cars, sometimes being successful, other times not, but I steal the cars to try to get back home. It really stresses me out BAD! Can u help? – Jesse
Lauri: Our cars, to our dreaming mind, mean much more than just being our car. To the dreaming mind our car is our ability to get where we want to go in life as well as our “drive” and motivation to reach certain goals.
Your car is constantly stolen in your dreams, which is a good indication that you may constantly feel directionless or that you feel you were robbed of an opportunity to reach a goal you had for yourself. It is also possible that this recurring dream is commenting on a recurring behavior pattern of losing interest. Do you tend to start something but not finish because of a lack of drive?
Very interesting that you also become a thief in your dreams! Do you tend to take shortcuts or try to find the easy way in waking life? I think you may not have found your path yet, you’ve not yet found that certain goal that keeps you motivated and wanting to work hard at it every day. You’re not alone. Many of us are wandering through life aimlessly, just going through the motions and not feeling fulfilled or excited about much.
Your dreams want you to find a new path, which is why they keep taking your car away from you in your dream, because the path you are on now isn’t going to get you “home,” it isn’t going to take you to a place in your life where you feel completeness and fulfillment. Ask yourself what you enjoy doing the most. See if you can incorporate that into your life in a productive manner that helps you grow and progress a little each day. Having trouble coming up worth it? Ask your dreams tonight to show you. That’s what they are there for. When you finally find the road you’re meant to travel, Or take the necessary action to get on the road you know you want, these dreams will stop!
Jesse replies: I have been trying to complete law school now for 3 years. I have not been able to finish because i had a baby, we can’t afford it and it’s out of state so i can’t go back to california to finish. I am struggling with how to make graduation happen and I can’t seem to find a way to make it happen. Since becoming a mother, I am second guessing what I should be doing for a career.
I am wondering if I am encountering all these obstacles because I shouldn’t be going to law school or be a lawyer. What I like doing most is working for animals’ rights’ and learning/speaking foreign languages. the only way i can see to incorporate those two loves is being an international lawyer with animal rights as a side specialty. This interpretation makes total sense! I knew I could count on you to help. You are truly amazing!
Our dreams will be persistent like Jesse’s recurring car dream when something in our life is not progressing. Our dreams try to step in and point us in the right direction, but if we don’t pay attention to them, they will continue to come back, again and again, until you finally listen and take their advice.
THE BEST WAY to figure out what is causing your recurring dreams is to look at what happened the day before the dream. Your dreams at night are ALWAYS connected to your previous day. My book Cracking The Dream Code has a dream decoding journal in it specifically designed to help you make those crucial connections between your day and what happens in your dreams that night. No other dream book lays it out for you this way. Want “aha! moment” after “aha! moment?” Want to be able to easily fit the pieces of your dream puzzle together? This book will do it for ya!

The wisdom of teeth in dreams March 18th, 2009
Teeth are very popular dream symbols and there are many opinions and even wives tales as to what they mean.
Some believe that teeth represent your power and when you lose them in a dream you are feeling powerless. Some think it means you have a fear of growing old or that you are vain. There is even the belief that it means someone around you is going to die!
It is certainly possible that these meanings ring true for some as we all have very unique lives, experiences and thoughts. Well, except for the death one. That’s just silly!
In all the years I’ve been doing this and with all the teeth dreams that have been reported to me on the air or in personal consultations, I’ve found that teeth in dreams represent your words. In fact, I was on the air last week on Kat Country in Modesto California when a gal called in with a teeth dream that was clearly about her words towards her new husband. Listen to the audio below to hear what this poor woman has been going through…
Every body part in your dream, whether it is your teeth, your hair or your feet, means something and not only that, has something to say about your life right now. In your dreams, your body certainly has its own language! I have a whole chapter on body parts in dreams in my book So, What Did You Dream Last Night? I recommend you grab yourself a copy so the next time you’re missing an arm or your legs turn into spaghetti, you’ll know why!

A dream that changed St. Patrick’s life. March 17th, 2009
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!! Here’s a little known fact about ol’ St. Patty that you may not know…
He was born in Britain around the A.D. 390 to an aristocratic Christian family with a townhouse, a country villa, and plenty of slaves.
At 16, Patrick’s world turned. He was kidnapped and sent overseas to tend sheep as a slave in the chilly, mountainous countryside of Ireland for seven years.
According to folklore, Patrick had a dream that showed him how to escape! He found passage on a pirate ship back to Britain, where he was reunited with his family.
His dreams then told him to go back to Ireland, which he did and that is where he got ordained as a priest and spent the rest of his life banishing snakes from Ireland and trying to convert the Irish to Christianity.
Dreams play an important role all throughout history because they are the most powerful part of who we are!
* Thomas Edison used to keep a cot in his laboratory so he could “grab ideas from space.”
* Harriet Tubman used her dreams to guide hundred of escaped slaves to freedom through the “underground railroad.”
* Abraham Lincoln consulted his dreams on a regular basis!
Want to be successful? Want to make a difference? Listen to your dreams!!
When we’re dreaming we are tapping into the part of ourselves that has all the answers, the part of ourselves that knows what is best and that can anticipate what is around the corner… if we would just pay attention!

What do your sex dreams reveal? March 16th, 2009
Here’s a fun article I did with The Metro UK about sex dreams…
So there I am, shopping for a tennis racket in Japan with Gordon Ramsay, when suddenly I am kissing a young Marlon Brando in a choppy sea – a fantastic turn of events by any girl’s standards. We’re both on bicycles so it’s pretty tough trying to stay afloat but it will take a lot more than cycling in deep water to stop me kissing one of my favourite crushes. Just as I hope things will get a bit steamier, I wake up.
According to a recent study by psychologist Jennie Parker of the University of the West of England, my fantastical head trip is pretty standard. Women’s sex dreams tend to include lots of kissing and fantasies about other dream characters, while men report more actual intercourse.
The University of Montreal in Canada found women’s dreams include romantic storylines and celebrities, while men’s include multiple partners (you can dream, boys). This research shows genders conform to their stereotypes even when they are deep in their own personal kaleidoscope of images and colours.
Although sex dreams are common – some people have them as often as once a week – it’s an area relatively untouched by psychologists. But dream expert Lauri Loewenberg says they tell us a lot about ourselves… Read More
When your dreams are warnings March 15th, 2009
Dreams serve many purposes, memory consolidation, problem solving, idea making… and most importantly, they serve the purpose of being a built-in warning system. Very often, your wiser dreaming mind will know when something in your life is going wrong before you are aware of it in waking life… or before you care to admit it.
Last week I was on the air in Richmond, VA on the Sid and Melissa Morning Show on Q 94. We talked about the most common warning symbols our dreams use to wake us up to something that needs our urgent attention in waking life. Listen to the audio below to find out what they are. Have you had any of these in your dreams?
BTW, do you like this falling picture? I did it myself! I created it for CNN when I worked with them on the Dr. Sanjay Gupta special Sleep. Hmmm… maybe I’ll post that in my next entry. Anyhoo, this picture is also in my book So, What Did You Dream Last Night? It’s a great book full of cool dream-inspired art. Makes a great gift too! Every coffee table needs one!
